The Importance of Pediatric Dentistry

Dental Hygiene

Maintaining good dental hygiene is crucial for people of all ages. Parents generally struggle to instill healthy dental practices in their children. Even though it might seem difficult, you must teach your children well so that they can enjoy good oral health in the future. At Dr. Richard Wilczek Inc., our dentists work towards providing dental care that will benefit patients. Our services include orthodontics, sedation, implants and teeth whitening.

Why is Pediatric Dentistry significant? A few things you should know for your child’s dental care are: 1. Detect decay early Take your child to see the dentist once their teeth start erupting or by the time that he/she is one. Schedule an appointment twice a year for routine check-ups and cleaning. This will help keep cavities away and also detect other dental problems at their onset. 2. Don’t choose gels Don’t use teeth gels that contain lidocaine and benzocaine, as these can cause serious harm to your child’s health. 3. Pay attention to baby teeth If a cavity develops in your child’s baby teeth, it needs to be addressed immediately so that the infection doesn’t spread. Also, addressing it immediately will help create a good environment for the growth of adult teeth and facilitate proper speech and chewing. 4. Sharing can be bad Inculcate the values of not using the same toothbrush and pacifiers in your children. Saliva contains cavity-causing bacteria that will transfer when the same toothbrush or pacifier is used. It can have a negative impact on your child’s dental hygiene. Therefore, using one’s own items, such as toothbrushes, is the best option. 5. Fluoride is helpful It controls decay and makes teeth resistant to bacteria and cavities. It also converses early decay. Consult with your pediatric dentist to get a recommendation for fluoride toothpaste for your child’s healthy teeth. 6. Make sure your child has finished eating before bed If children fall asleep with a bottle of milk in their mouths, their teeth will be sugar-coated and this can lead to early decay. If your child takes longer to drink milk and has the habit of keeping the milk bottle in the mouth for long, it can cause tooth decay too. 7. Snacks are risky Snacks are addictive, but these can quickly get stuck in the corners of your teeth and cause great pain and cavities. Keep your children away from unhealthy snacks that contain sugar to protect their teeth from early decay.
